Custom Dental Crowns Can Restore and Protect Your Teeth
If a tooth has suffered severe decay or damage, a crown can often help restore both function and aesthetics. Dental crowns are tooth-shaped caps that cover the entire compromised tooth above the gum line. Dr. Nick M. Mobilia utilizes innovative CEREC® technology, and also works with outside laboratories, to create and place custom dental crowns at his Midtown Manhattan, New York, office. He can craft natural-looking dental crowns tailored to your smile. We also use state-of-the-art materials for greater durability and strength. Contact our office today to experience our top-quality care.
Even if you receive a root canal or treatment for decay at another practice, Dr. Mobilia can provide you the highest quality of restorations, ensuring the best possible aesthetics for your smile.
How Can Dental Crowns Restore Your Smile?
Crowns will cover the entire damaged tooth above the gum line. These restorations can perform a wide range of restorative and even cosmetic functions such as:
- Protect after treatment for large areas of decay that are too extensive for a filling
- Repair cracked or weakened teeth
- Restore the natural force of your bite if you have a worn or disproportionately small tooth
- Conceal internal stains or other aesthetic blemishes
- Top a dental implant
- Restore form and function following root canal therapy
Your Fabrication Options
At Elite Dental Arts, we use multiple methods to create dental crowns. In many cases, we will utilize CEREC® technology to provide convenient same-day restorations. CEREC®, which stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, combines 3-D imaging with an in-office milling machine for precise, convenient results. Same-day crowns can be a great option if you are busy and want to receive full treatment in one appointment.
For the most lifelike appearance, we typically recommend lab-fabricated crowns. Our laboratory uses top-of-the-line materials, including IPS e.max® porcelain. This innovative material is extremely strong, and offers lifelike appearance. It usually takes about two weeks for the lab to create your crown. However, we can also request a three-day rush, if needed. While you are waiting for your final crown, we will attach a temporary restoration. Even if you receive a root canal or treatment for decay at another practice, Dr. Mobilia can provide you the highest quality of restorations, ensuring the best possible aesthetics for your smile.
The Crown Placement Process
Dr. Mobilia will begin by removing all damage and decay that could limit the success of your crown. He will also reshape the tooth to ensure you have a strong and stable base for your restoration. We will then take impressions of your tooth. The impressions are sent to our partner lab, and it will take about two weeks until you receive your permanent restoration. When your crown is finished, Dr. Mobilia will ensure it fits properly and matches your specifications. He will ensure your crown will rebuild the function of your mouth, and match, or even improve, your bite. Dr. Mobilia will then attach your restoration to your tooth, making sure it is virtually indistinguishable from the rest of your smile.
If you choose to receive a same-day crown, Dr. Mobilia will prepare your tooth as he would for a traditional crown. He will then take 3-D images of your tooth. He uses these highly detailed scans to create accurate designs, using advanced CAD/CAM (computer-aided design or computer-aided manufacturing) software. Our milling machine will then use these designs to carve your crown from a solid piece of porcelain. CEREC® fabrication usually takes less than an hour, and you can leave the office with a fully restored smile.
